What is the Difference Between Witchcraft and Wicca?

There is a lot of misconception about Wicca and Witchcraft. You may be under the impression that a Wiccan that practices Wicca and a Witch that practices Witchcraft is the same thing. The truth is they’re not.

That being said, Wiccans can and are considered Witches due to the fact that they cast witchcraft spells. Confused yet? Don’t worry; once you understand the difference between the two it will become clearer.

What is a Wiccan?

A Wiccan is someone who is apart of the pagan religion Wicca. Just to clarify, Paganism consists of a number of different religions that are typically nature-based and polytheistic (worships more than one God). Wicca is one pagan religion that follows these beliefs. To be more specific, Wiccans observe the eight Wiccan Sabbats, honor Deities, have rituals and perform magickal (the spelling Wiccans use for the word magic) witchcraft rituals.

However, to this day, Wicca is still a religion that can not accurately be defined, and can mean something different to Wiccans based on their beliefs. For instance, many traditional Wiccans are apart of a coven, and believe those who practice Wicca solitarily are not real Wiccans. This is only a matter of perception and not a recognized truth of the religion. Nevertheless, all Wiccans, whether they are solitary or part of a coven, practice magick and witchcraft spells. In so doing, they are also witches.

Wicca has been rooted right back to the belief of the ancient pagan who emerged hundreds of years ago. The Wicca spells are referred to as “magick” and not “magic” the addition of the “k” is to differentiate real magic from that of just tricks that are performed by magicians on stage.

The nature including its elements such as air, earth, water and fire are just revered and loved amongst wiccans. Wiccans do consider themselves the same as that with nature. Any harm to the nature would just cause them much harm therefore Wicca spells are just white magic spells and only meant for a good purpose.

What is a Witch?

A witch is anyone (male or female) who practices witchcraft regardless of their non-religious or religious background. A witch can practice Wicca and Witchcraft. In other words, you don’t have to be Wiccan to be a Witch. You could also be Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Islamic or even an atheist and still perform witchcraft.

What is Witchcraft?

Witchcraft is the act of using the natural energies of herbs, incense, candles or other elements or objects with the energies that exist within yourself. Being a Witch is a choice, and is not something that is automatically passed down through generations of witchcraft. Using magic and casting spells takes experience, practice, learning – and most of all- belief in your craft. Thus, anyone can be a Witch whenever they choose to be.

Witchcraft spells are used by both Wiccans and Witches. The flowing are a list of common spells that many witches use.

If you would like to become a witch and use witchcraft and wicca spells to influence your life, there are plenty of books and resource material available at local bookstores and online sites, such as Wishbonix, that will help you achieve your goal. Blessed Be.
